The Sunset Before the Snowstorm

"Do you live here?"

I hesitated for a split second before answering. Had I stumbled on private property and its agitated homeowner? Then I saw the woman taking pictures with her smartphone.

"No," I said, relieved. "I was just walking by."

"I was driving and had to pull over," she said. "It's a shame--some people don't appreciate things when they have them."

Red Sky at night is a homeowner's delight for residents of Rockaway Peninsula.

While that statement is certainly true, the people who live near Jamaica Bay might take say they live there specifically because of the majestic vistas. In this case, residents in this neighborhood don't have to venture far to get a good view of a sunset.
